A Deck Building Company That Works the Way You Want to Work
We build custom decks for homeowners and businesses throughout Charlottesville and the surrounding region. The work itself — designing, building, and standing behind a well-made outdoor structure — is what we’re focused on. We’re not a franchise, not a lead aggregator, and not a company that has salespeople separate from the people who actually build the decks.
Every project we take on is genuinely custom. We don’t have catalog layouts or standard packages. We come to your property, look at the site, understand what you’re trying to accomplish, and design something that actually fits. The person you talk to at the beginning of the project is involved throughout. There’s no handoff to a crew who is hearing about the project for the first time when they show up.
We serve both residential clients adding outdoor living space to their homes and commercial clients who need decks, platforms, and outdoor structures built to a higher specification. The approach is the same either way — careful, custom, and built to last.
Straightforward From Start to Finish
A lot of deck companies operate the same way — a salesperson comes out, shows you options from a catalog, quotes a number, and a crew shows up sometime later. We work differently, and the difference matters in practice more than it does on paper.
We take time on the front end to understand your project properly before we quote it. That means we’re not giving you a number that will change once we’ve started. It means the deck we propose actually accounts for the site conditions, the budget, and what you’re trying to do with the space. And it means the person putting the proposal together has actually looked at your property rather than estimating from a photo or a description.
When something comes up during a build that affects the scope or the cost — which occasionally happens — we tell you before we do it, not after. We don’t present surprises on the final invoice. If we find something at the ledger point or in the framing that changes what we need to do, you hear about it immediately and we discuss it before the work proceeds.
- Free on-site consultation — we come to your property and look at the actual site
- Written proposal with a firm price before any work is scheduled
- No scope changes without your knowledge and approval before the work happens
- Final walkthrough before the job is closed — if something isn’t right, we take care of it
What We Actually Believe About This Work
These aren’t values statements — they’re descriptions of how we actually make decisions on the job.
Honest Pricing
We give you a firm written price before any work starts. We don’t pad estimates with contingencies to cover for poor planning, and we don’t lowball to win a job and make up the difference later. The number in the proposal is the number on the invoice unless something genuinely changes during the build — and if it does, you know about it before it happens.
Honest Material Advice
We work with a wide range of materials — pressure-treated lumber, composite, cedar, PVC, hardwood — and we don’t push you toward the one with the best margin for us. Some clients are better served by pressure-treated. Others genuinely benefit from composite or cedar. We’ll tell you what we actually think fits your situation, budget, and maintenance preferences rather than defaulting to one answer for everyone.
Building to Last
The structural work that determines whether a deck performs for 15 years or 30 years is mostly invisible once the decking boards are down. Correct fastener chemistry for pressure-treated lumber, proper ledger flashing, footings at the right depth, post bases that keep wood off concrete — we do these things correctly on every build because the consequences of not doing so show up years later and aren’t our problem by then.
Site-Specific Design
We don’t have standard deck plans. We design around your specific property — the slope of the lot, how the house sits on the site, where the sun falls at different times of day, what the access constraints are, how you’ll actually use the space. The result is a deck that fits the property rather than one that was dropped onto it without much consideration for what was already there.
Clear Communication
You won’t wonder what’s happening with your project or when the crew is showing up. We keep clients updated as work progresses and communicate proactively when anything needs a decision. The goal is that you never feel like you have to chase us for information — because that shouldn’t be something a client has to do.
We Stand Behind the Work
When a project is finished, we walk the completed deck with you before calling the job done. If something isn’t right — if a board isn’t flush, a railing is slightly off, a transition isn’t finished the way it should be — we take care of it before we leave. The job isn’t closed until the deck matches what was proposed and what was agreed.
Based in Charlottesville, Building Across Central Virginia
We’re based in Charlottesville and have built decks throughout a wide area of central Virginia — west into the Shenandoah Valley, north through the Piedmont toward Culpeper and Fredericksburg, south toward Lynchburg, and east toward Richmond. Each of these areas has its own terrain, its own permit jurisdictions, and its own building conditions. We’ve worked in all of them long enough to know what building there actually involves.
The range matters because site conditions vary considerably across our service area. A sloped lot in Crozet is a different engineering problem from a flat suburban property in Culpeper or a lakefront build in Louisa County. A hillside property with Blue Ridge views in Staunton requires different design thinking than an in-town lot in Fredericksburg. We approach each one specifically rather than applying the same solution regardless of what the site actually offers.
From Homeowners We’ve Built For
We’ve built decks throughout Charlottesville, Crozet, Waynesboro, Staunton, and across central Virginia. Here’s what some of our clients have said about working with us.
“We had a clear idea of what we wanted but needed help making it work on a sloped lot. They came out, looked at the site, and came back with a plan that addressed all the challenges we hadn’t fully thought through. The finished deck is exactly what we had in mind.”
“The pricing was transparent from the start. They gave us a written proposal with a clear breakdown, and the final number matched what we were told at the beginning. That level of straightforwardness is harder to find than it should be.”
“We went back and forth on composite versus pressure-treated for a while. They spent real time walking us through the differences — not pushing one over the other, just explaining what we were actually choosing between. That kind of honest advice made the decision easy.”
